SCULPTURE CHIEF SITTING BULL(1837—1890)

American Indian chief of the Hunkpapa Sioux during the Plains Wars of 1865–90,
the struggle between the Plains Indians and the USA. In 1868 Sitting Bull agreed to Sioux resettlement in North and South Dakota, but when gold was discovered in the Black Hills region, miners and the US army invaded Sioux territory. With the treaty broken, Sitting Bull led the Sioux against Lt-Col Custer at the Battle of the Little Bighorn, Montana, in 1876. Sitting Bull was pursued by the US Army and forced to flee to Canada. He was allowed to return in 1881, and he toured in the Wild West show of ‘Buffalo Bill’ Cody. He settled in South Dakota on the Standing Rock Reservation and was killed by Red Tomahawk, a Sioux police officer, during his arrest on suspicion of involvement in Indian agitations. His death represented one of the final acts of the defeat of the freedom and traditional way of life of the Plains Indians.

En 1868 la Séance du Taureau a été d'accord avec le repeuplement Sioux au Nord et le Dakota du Sud, mais quand on a découvert de l'or dans la région de Collines Noire, des mineurs et l'armée américaine a envahi le territoire Sioux. Avec le traité cassé, Étant assis le Taureau a mené le Sioux contre le Colonel-Lieutenant Custer à la Bataille du petit Mouflon, le Montana, en 1876.

La séance du Taureau a été poursuivie par l'armée américaine et obligatoire(forcée) fuir au Canada. On lui a permis de retourner en 1881 et il a visité dans la nature le spectacle(salon) D'ouest de ' Buffalo Bill ' Cody. Il s'est installé au Dakota du Sud sur la Réservation(Réserve) de Roche(Rock) Permanente et a été tué par le Tomahawk Rouge,
un policier Sioux, pendant son arrestation sur le soupçon à la participation(l'engagement) dans des agitations indiennes.
